We’re back!

Hello all!

After a lengthy break, during which we’ve wound down, enjoyed the British summer, read lots of scripts, watched other actors working hard on stage and tidied up the props store (well, maybe that last one was a little white lie…) Out Of The Box is ready and raring to go again. We’ll be back in the Room Upstairs in March 2014 with ‘Still’ by Steve Lambert; a tense, psychological thriller about love, desire, trust and betrayal.  Steve is a Bristol-based playwright, whose work has been produced extensively in London and the south west. However, this will be the first time ‘Still’ has been staged in the East Midlands. Auditions will be held very soon – see details on here, our Facebook page and our Twitter feed. Tickets will be on sale in January from the Drill Hall.

It’s been a over a year since Lisa and Simon bared all in OBT’s first production @the Blue Room’ in the Room Upstairs at the Drill Hall. We’ve worked extremely hard since then to set a benchmark for the company’s future productions. For reasons of sanity and self preservation, we will be producing two shows a year from now on instead of the three we managed in the first year. However, there is always the possibility of some side projects and collaborations.

Since our last update, Carrie and Adrian have left the company – Adrian has moved away from Lincolnshire and Carrie is working full-time and then some with the Lincolnshire Rape Crisis Team. Their support in getting Out Of The Box off the ground has been invaluable and we wish them the very best for the future. The company is now down to two permanent members, Lisa and Simon, but with lots of wonderful actors and supporters who all work together to make things happen.

We look forward to seeing you all very soon!

Our next production

Midsummer will see Out of the Box taking to the stage for our third production; The Audition by James Johnson. This fascinating, and at times disturbing, psychological drama follows Lauren, a young actress who is responding to an audition call from Stella, the director. The audition is unlike any other, as Stella pushes Lauren to her physical, emotional and ethical limits. As Lauren is tested, her resolve and determination to overcome adversity grows, challenging the seemingly cold and impenetrable Stella and setting up a battle of wills between the two.

Out of the Box regular Lisa Hewitt will be playing Stella. Lauren will be played by newcomer Grace Waite. Simon Harvey will be putting the women through their paces as director.

Performances are in the Room Upstairs at Lincoln Drill Hall on 21-22 June at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 from the Drill Hall –

Auditions for ‘The Audition’

Out of the Box Theatre Company are holding auditions for their next production: ‘The Audition’ by James Johnson

A tense psychological drama, ‘The Audition’ explores just how far a person will go to achieve success.
The cast consists of two women; one young (18-25) and one older (30s).

The play is at times dark and sinister and actors will be required to commit themselves to a timescale and push their boundaries – the younger of the two is required to strip to her underwear and for both characters there are references of a sexual nature and of drug taking.
This is a pre-warning so all auditionees know what to expect.

We will be holding workshop style auditions so movement/improvisation will be required, however script extracts can be emailed out prior to the audition dates to allow people to familiarise themselves with the text.

Partial scripts, along with more information about the play, can be found at

Auditions will be held at The Victoria Pub, Union Road, Lincoln on Wednesday 27th February and Monday 4 March 2013 at 7.30pm.

Production dates are 20th and 21st June at the Lincoln Drill Hall.
